ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL (Russ Fitch) 1/21/2010: Committee reviewed approved applications from December 11, 2009 through January 15, 2010. Patio enclosure application was tabled until February 18, 2010 meeting.  Committee will review non-emergency construction operating hours.  The Chair will respond to a resident’s letter concerning regulations on storing items in parking spaces.  Next meeting: Thursday, 2/18/10 at 9:30 a.m.

BUDGET AND FINANCE (Twyla Gaugenmaier) 2/08/2010:  Audit Subcommittee will meet Monday, 2/16/2010 at 9:30 a.m. Insurance Subcommittee will meet Monday, 3/15/2010 at 1:30 p.m. Committee will consider various methods of investment of working capital.  Committee asked Business Manager to investigate and invest up to $1million of HGA Funds in short term CDs, in four banks, FDIC insured, not to exceed $250,000 per bank. Next Budget and Finance meeting: Monday, 3/08/2010 at 10:00 a.m.

CIVIC AFFAIRS (Donna Dissette) 2/04/2010:  Committee heard about Senior Day at the Capitol (2/04/2010) when seniors meet legislators and voice their views on issues. Committee received a list of Bills introduced in the legislature and the position of the CO Senior Lobby on each.  Committee heard several suggestions for getting maximum participation in the 2010 Census from HG residents.  When League of Women Voters voter guides are available, they will be distributed and posted.  One member reported two fraudulent $1.00 charges on his credit card.  HGMD Meet the Candidates Forum is scheduled for April 16, 2010.  Next meeting: Thursday, 3/04/2010 at 9:00 a.m.

COMMUNICATIONS/PUBLICATIONS (Joyce Angel) 2/01/10: Committee will have a table at the 3/24/2010 Heather Gardens Resource Fair and have information to hand out.  Christopherson reported on ad activity in Jan. and Feb.  January, 2010, website traffic increased 43.6% over January, 2009.  Committee recommended to Heather Gardens Association Board of Directors that a maximum of three Realtors be allowed to sponsor the Heather Gardens Association website. Four visitors completed survey forms at the Community Center.  Visitors seem reluctant to complete the form even though they could win a prize for submitting it.  A focus group will be scheduled with all realtors who did business in Heather Gardens last year to get their insights into selling real estate here.  Committee voted to pay for an ad in the Metro Denver Seniors Blue Book beginning in May.  Next meeting: Tuesday, 3/01/2010 at 9:30 a.m.

COMMUNITY CENTER (Larry Davila) 1/25/2010: Committee voted to discontinue the Restaurant Subcommittee.  Committee proposes two changes to PMs concerning the swimming pool:  1) Food and drink, except for water in unbreakable containers, is prohibited in the indoor swimming-pool room.  Glass containers and breakable items are prohibited. 2) A soap shower is required prior to entering the pool.  Committee decided that current residents would get preference over non-residents when assigning volunteers and trip escorts. Committee voted to allow the Communications/Publications Committee to use the art wall from March 1 through May 4 for information about the proposed Community Center project.  Wi-Fi at the Community Center was discontinued in January due to a user’s abuse of bandwidth. Travel Subcommittee reported waiting lists for several trips. More Senior Ride RTD trips will come out mid-February for April – June. Special Events Subcommittee reported $20,629 revenue in 2009. Class Subcommittee reported registration of 765, which is a little lower than usual.  Two classes are being taught by volunteers.  Guest passes need to be tracked by the Reception Desk. In 2009, the total annual participation in special trips, Community Center events, and classes was 10,363.  The 5-year average was 10,295. Next meeting (if needed): Monday, 2/22/2010 at 10:00 a.m.

GOLF (Georgia Ptacek):  Next scheduled meeting:  3/09/2010 at 10:00 a.m.

ROADS and GROUNDS (Dick Flagg) 1/26/2010:  Heather Gardens received one of two City of Aurora Xeriscaping grants for $30,000.  Committee members Dee White and Rick Larsen worked with Supervisor Jeff Owens to apply for the grant. Committee voted to accept a new design for new building address signs in Heather Gardens. Next meeting: Tuesday, 2/23/2010 at 10:00 a.m.

STRUCTURE MAINTENANCE (Gene Burns) 1/26/2010: Committee heard presentation about Parking Structures 1 – 4 as the beginning of a dialog to find resolutions to problems with moisture, ventilation and electrical power issues. Recommended to Heather Gardens Association Board of Directors to enter into a contract with PG construction to install new metal cap flashing on knee walls of buildings 244 and 250.  Recommended to Heather Gardens Association Board of Directors to enter into a contract with Mountain States Equipment Company to supply new evaporative coolers and stainless steel roof curbs for buildings 214, 224 and 231. February agenda will include “Wi-Fi for Heather Gardens.” Energy Conservation Subcommittee will meet 2/11/2010 with new Chair Bob Hoffmaster. Next Meeting:  Tuesday, 2/23/2010 at 1:00 p.m.

HEATHER GARDENS FOUNDATION (Rita Wells) 1/11/2010: Balance as of 12/31/09 was $3,797.36. 2009 projects completed and their costs are:  1) Funds toward purchase of three golf carts, $2,195. 2) Security cam with monitor for Community Center information desk, $706.20.  3) Audio wireless microphone with antenna, audio and cable installation, $620.  4) Stationery expense for recognition letters to donors, $31.99. Foundation meeting day and time will change to the 2nd Wednesday each month at 10:00 a.m.  Next meeting: Wednesday, 3/10/2010 at 10:00 a.m.
